An A4 pamphlet entitled 'To those who build in Hertfordshire'. Printed by St.Christopher Press, Letchworth and issued by The Hertfordshire Society, 152 Fore Street, Hertford. The consulting architects for the pamphlet included Barry Parker (Chairman); Percival C. Blow; Harry R. Finn; Louis De Soissons; Major H.P.G.Maule. It lists the type of housing a design sutable and unsuitable for different regions of Hertfordshire, lookng at the type of bricks to be used, cladding styles and roof styles and colour. It lists that wall in North and East Hertfordshire should be made of: Brick - Colour washed or plastered, plaster combed, white or colour washed, plaster swept with broad float, white or coloured wash. Unsuitable materials include White or red smooth faced bricks left their natural colour, sham-half timbering, concrete with imitation rock face or other obtrusive finish or left its natural colour, pebble dashing. For roofs is suggests hand made tiles of good colour; thatch; small grey slates and deems unsuitable Pressed tiles or any tiles that do not weather; large thin slates and grey purple slates; diamond pattern asbestos; other asbestos roofing, except where unavoidable, in which case a dark (rustic) red-brown is preferable; corrugated iron roofing; felt. It also lists suitable and unsuitable design for windows and paint colour.
