Statement of Purpose

The Garden City Collection exists to tell the story of Letchworth - the world’s first Garden City - and its continuing legacy.

We care for and share an internationally significant collection so that everyone can explore the town’s history, its people, and the vision of its founder, Ebenezer Howard.

Our work not only safeguards the past but actively reflects the changing face of contemporary Letchworth, ensuring our collections and stories remain relevant and representative.

Through accessible collections and creative programmes, we inspire learning, spark curiosity, and celebrate the unique heritage that shapes our community today.

As a charitable service of Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, we help fulfil its mission to benefit the town and all who live, work, and visit here.
